Nine ventures in 36 years — three that paid for everything, six that didn't. This is my brief story....
How I got here
I’ve spent much of my working life building and running businesses. I’m not an AI scientist, software engineer, financial guru or venture capitalist. I studied science and later completed an MBA, and was then fortunate to be part of a team of entrepreneurs who built a business from humble beginnings into an attractive buyer’s opportunity of $100m from a FTSE100 company in 2009. At heart I’m an entrepreneur and I’m fascinated, as well as a little anxious, at the speed of change happening in our business world all because of AI. And soon because of robotics.
To date, I have started 9 business ventures over the last 36 years, either by myself, or with a small group of entrepreneurs. Of the 9, 3 were successful, 2 spluttered along, and 4 failed outright. The main thing is that the earnings from the 3 successful ventures were greater than the losses from the rest.
My current venture is AI and AI Agents.
What interests me about AI isn't simply that it can make existing businesses more efficient. It's that it may allow us to build businesses in an entirely different way – and quicker!
